In North Korea, an estimated 120,000 people are currently being held in detention camps, and as many as 400,000 have died from starvation, disease, and execution. In Myanmar, over 200,000 Rohingya Muslims have been displaced from their homes and are currently facing ethnic cleansing. In Darfur, an ongoing genocidal campaign has resulted in over 300,000 human casualties. In Syria, 1700 people were killed just this past week. And yet the entire world has turned its attention to Israels genocide in Gaza. My Facebook feed has recently been flooded with pro-Israel posts, but even more anti-Israel posts; there have been dozens of protests across the world condemning Israels assault on Gaza. Yet where are the outcries and rallies denouncing the massacres in North Korea, Myanmar, Darfur, Syria and elsewhere? I am not saying that we should merely neglect the Israeli-Gaza conflict, but if we are to raise a foul cry against human rights abuses, it is critical to stop ignoring disparate human rights tragedies that have been violating international standards around the globe. At what point will we stop pointing fingers at just one group of people and start focusing on horrendous phenomenons elsewhere? mic/articles/93738/9-human-rights-tragedies-the-world-needs-to-stop-ignoring?utm_source=policymicFB&utm_medium=main&utm_campaign=social
