In Search of Safety The In Search of Safety project is about - TopicsExpress

In Search of Safety The In Search of Safety project is about creating awareness and challenging myths and stereotypes about asylum seekers, refugees and migrants. Red Cross will be going out to schools, to deliver the In Search of Safety presentation which will take about an hour and a half in total. Part of the presentation is the “client story” (20-30 minutes), where the Guest Speaker will speak to the class, describing their journey, why/how they left their homeland and discussing their life in Australia. The children will of course be given the opportunity to ask questions. At the moment Red Cross are trying to create a pool of Guest Speaker Volunteers, who are interested in sharing their story at various Primary schools around Perth. It would be great if we can source people who might be interested in becoming part of the In Search of Safety “Guest Speaker Volunteers pool”. Red Cross are very mindful that such speaking could be a very intense experience and in no way do we want to cause any distress or difficulties for potential participants. It is therefore very important that they are in a stable situation (have their Protection Visas) and are comfortable with sharing their story. In short, we are looking for people who are happy to become an Australian Red Cross volunteer are open, honest and reliable have a story to share and are willing to answer questions are comfortable speaking in front of a group of kids are previous IMA clients that have their PV and are in a stable situation. It is not required for the Guest Speaker Volunteers to speak English, we can arrange an interpreter if needed.
