In William Borruets book, The Hand of God, the story that is shared by Thrizza Kiplagat is amazing, challenging and equally touching. I woke up to this story on pages 173-174 and I challenge everyone of us to read this Page if they cant read the whole book. She was born around 20yrs ago in Emining Location and went ahead to become one of the most well performed girls at the prestigious Moi High School - Kabarak. But before that, all of us who sulk and loose hope would not have made it. In the year that she joined pre school in 1997, she lost her father in a tragic road accident. And from that accident life for them changed for the worse. I heard about it in school myself. Behind standard seven I saw a group of girls discuss in low tones. Titus Kiplagat the driver of KZM 320 was no more. A journey of abject poverty for this family of nine would follow. Not even her mother would sit there and watch. she bowed out. Left them to stare poverty in the eye. The society was not any kind too. But they kept on. They did exams on empty stomachs and managed to pass. She braved school days without food and a leaking roof in the evening. They had in fact no house initially and a hut was constructed by one of the brothers. It is indeed a story that will awaken you from your comfort zone. Those of you who think going without food or to school on bare feet from standard one to eight, is only possible in movies, need to think. Those of us who think breakfast is a must and a two course meal a guarantee, think. Those of us who take life for granted. Find time to read this book. So that you meet people who came forward to shape the destiny of Thrizza Kiplagat. People who dont ask what they stand to gain in everything they do. Bernard Kipchoge Chemjor and many others who selflessly gave their time and resources to change a life. To make a change in family that will be told from generation to generation. She is now a student at UoN pursuing Bachelor of Pharmacy. Rewrite your story too. We all have the opportunity. Cc Birgen Mathew Kipchumba. Dorah Sawe, Barry Limo, Nicholas Ronix Kiplagat.
