In a bit of frustration about hearing that Republicans just want to repeal the ACA with no alternative solution. If I was in Congress, my first swag at solving this healthcare problem.... Repeal the ACA. Reinstate in a separate bill the parts of the ACA that consumers like (including me) - the ability of kids to stay on their parents healthcare, coverage of preexisting conditions. Take the subsidies that would have been applied to buying full coverage through the exchange and immediately move uninsured into catastrophic coverage and a primary care plan that starts with telemedicine services as the first line of defense for primary care (Oregon companies like zoomcare and doclogic in my district are being amazingly innovative in the affordable delivery of healthcare). Let citizens apply with insurance companies directly and have insurance bill the government using the same type of system schools use for billing USDA for delivering free/reduced lunches to kids - by volume, not by individual person - which save a whole lot of paperwork and cost. Protect public employees from the HUGE Cadillac tax theyre going to get hit with in 2018 because their plans are supposedly too generous according to the President and those who voted for the ACA. We also need to make sure healthcare providers are supported by creating policy that encourages people to get into healthcare and let them to safely practice at the top of the scope of their license which allows for additional innovation and cost savings to the system. Lastly, I would add healthcare incentives for all Americans....deductibility of healthcare premiums off taxes, gym memberships, cooking/nutrition classes. Wed also remove foods of minimal nutritional value from our SNAP programs so were not frontloading healthcare costs through our social safety net nutrition programs. To think Republicans dont want people to see the doctor or be healthy is ludicrous....Im personally committed to the delivery of safe, affordable, effective healthcare for the people in my community and my state and will support both a repeal of the current ACA and work to pass concepts described above at a state level.
