In a glorious fight against food waste French supermarket giant Intermarche has introduced a successful campaign called Inglorious Fruits and Vegetables. Intermarche purchases produce usually discarded for cosmetic reasons selling them at a 30 per cent discount. Due to the success of the campaign ugly fruit and vegetables are now available in soup and fruit juice form. Between 20 and 40 per cent of fruit and vegetables grown in Australia are rejected as they dont meet the high cosmetic standards and specifications of supermarkets. Every year Australians waste roughly $10 billion worth of food. Would you be willing to eat ‘ugly’ fruit and veg? We sure would! abc.net.au/radionational/programs/bushtelegraph/irregular-food/5595302
