In a time where the phrase food desert is synonymous with Black communities, our featured guest are leading the urban farmers movement in Chicago, and forming partnerships across the globe around the intersecting idea of educating Black people on the importance of growing their own food. This week we take you inside of Black Oaks Center, where healthy fruits and vegetables are produced, and workshops & retreats are held regularly. We then visit momentarily with Healthy Food Hub hosted by Betty Shabazz Charter School, where food from Black Oaks is distributed alongside other farmers and merchants 2 Saturdays every month. For those of us who are interested in growing our own farms, well be receiving tips on how to turn our backyards into bustling barrels of food from Your Bountiful Harvest.
