In addition to Stroke Awareness, May is Skin Cancer Awareness - TopicsExpress

In addition to Stroke Awareness, May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month! Skin cancer is a lifestyle disease, affecting young women, older men and everyone in between. Consider these facts:1 in 5 will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime; 13 million Americans are living with a history of nonmelanoma skin cancer. But there is good news: because skin cancer is chiefly a lifestyle disease, it is also highly preventable. • Limit direct exposure to the sun • Try not to get sunburn • Avoid tanning booths • Cover up with hats and clothing • Apply 1 ounce (2 Tbs) of sunscreen to any exposed skin 30 minutes before going outside. Want to learn more? Schedule a skin exam with Dr. Andrew D. Lee, our Board Certified Dermatologist at Yadkin Valley Dermatology, by calling (336) 835-0165.
