In all thy ways acknowledge him, And he will direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:6 The courageous journey out of homelessness came full circle at The Bridge to Hope. A B2H Mom celebrates being hired; following the interview she was told she would need new shoes for the position. She reflects I really need a new pair of shoes but, I got hired in my homeless shoes! Think about that for a moment if you will...this woman has walked a long, lonely journey of homelessness. During this journey she lost everything...her children, her dignity, her self-respect, her mere humanity. She has shared the account of when she secured a spot in a shelter for a night. On those nights she counted herself lucky. When there was no room for her in the shelter she was forced to brave the streets. She told B2H she would try to make herself invisible for protection, essentially trying to look like a pile of trash, so no one would notice her or harm her. All of that changed when she decided to believe life could be different. She entered a faith based shelter and began to hear about God. From there she began addressing the issues that caused her homelessness. And then she entered The Bridge to Hope. It is not easy to take steps of faith and trust that life can be better. To believe that God has a plan for us all to prosper us and give us hope... moving forward requires that essential first step. She took that step. Taking steps forward lead her to vocational training, followed by the path to employment. Praising God that those homeless shoes dont dictate her path anymore. She has put her trust in God who is so patient and loving with us all. He only requires that we trust in Him and He will direct our paths. B2H continues to receive single Moms who are struggling to get out of homelessness into a place of security, a place where she can begin to rebuild her life with regular income, where she can give her children the life they need so that they never have to go through the struggles their mother did. B2H is there to help them get to such place. However, B2H is a team that God has put together to help bring that about, a team of churches and teams of individuals in essence helping them take off their “homeless shoes”. If you feel that God is leading you to become a part of this vital ministry contact B2H today. Written by B2H Staff Sallie Jarboe
