In an effort to rekindle the community spirit that surrounded the NJCAA National Champion Whitecaps team twenty years ago the Galveston Chamber of Commerce has declared the Saturday, May 3 Whitecaps Baseball final home game for the 2014 season as the “Galveston Chamber of Commerce Game” at 1:00 p.m. at the Whitecaps Baseball field at 83rd and Giusti Road in Galveston. Attendees are encouraged to wear a Galveston College item to the game to show their support. Saturday, May 3 is the final home game for the Whitecaps Baseball 2014 season and the game will feature a fifteen minute introduction of the team’s sophomores prior to the beginning of the first game. Both Whitecaps 2014 Baseball and Softball teams are headed to the Region XIV Conference Tournaments. The women’s softball team is seeded number 1 in their tournament that starts today in Lufkin. The Whitecaps softball team was 19 wins and 5 losses in conference play. The Whitecaps baseball team was 27 wins and 9 losses for a tied for first place position with Alvin Community College. The Whitecaps baseball team will play at Blinn College today and return to Galveston on Saturday May 3 to play Blinn College at home at 1:00 p.m. The Whitecaps baseball team needs to win one more game than Alvin Community College in this final weekend to win the conference and to enter the regional tournament as the number 1 seed. Galveston College supporters, students, faculty and staff are urged to come out to the game on May 3 at 1:00 p.m. to show support for the Whitecaps teams.
