In any relationship, be it family, friendship, professional, romantic or marital, there is a marked contrast between the principles of Christ and the principles of the world. The great, and even subtle, principle of this world is one of asset vs. liability.. Its a basic philosophy that trades off the worth, value and achievement of others in order for us to feel worth, value and to achieve ourselves. Where to be loved and receive love is on the conditional basis that we bring to the table something of worth to the other. Even the people we associate with are of great importance because a person can be a great asset or liability to your cause. Its the all common phrase of, You scratch my back; and ill scratch yours.. However, God trades on the principle of unconditional love. And self-sacrificing servitude is the currency of Heaven - not the what can you do for me? mentality of the world. Those who experience security in the love of their Father have no need to prove their worth or value to others. And regardless of circumstances, wealth-accumulation, prestige or ability, your worth is secure in your relationship to God as your Father. Importantly though, while you may not obtain intrinsic value from achievements, you will still achieve. Because it is unconditional love, and guaranteed acceptance that provides the greatest motivator for human performance. It inspires and awakens our greatest potential, and is the optimal environment for self-growth and change. And like Kennedy said, Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country - I will say, Ask not what others can do for you, but what you can do for others. In the former - where love is conditional - performance is driven by an internal fear of rejection. It is burdensome in relationships and eventually only leads to discouragement. In the latter - where love is unconditional - performance is awakened and given full liberty to excel and achieve. It is free, trusting and secure in its Fathers total acceptance and grace. Additionally, it also allows those around us to experience the same when they feel Gods love emulating from you.
