In as much as we appreciate that the Presidential candidates in the forthcoming 20th January 2014 should employ all their abilities to sell themselves throughout the Country, we note with concerns the desperation of some candidates. While we were challenging United Party for National Development (UPND) Mr. Hakainde Hicilema to clarify and disclose his association and funding from foreign powers whom we believe may have ulterior interest in Zambia, the Patriotic Front President Mr. Edgar Lungu seem to have also joined the bandwagon. It has just been reviewed that Mr. Lungu left the Country on Saturday 27th January 2014 and returned on 29th January 2014. Mr. Lungu has not explained the objectives of his trip to the Zambian people. He has also not disclosed whether he traveled in his personal capacity or on behalf of the Zambians. It must be borne in mind that Mr. Lungu is currently a Justice and Defense minister, as such, he is supposed to be attending to his duties for which the Zambian people are paying him for. Mr. Lungu, as a government worker, is accountable to the Zambian people as prescribed by the public workers code of conduct. Therefore Mr. Lungu should be transparent when he travels, especially if he is going outside the Country. It has been repeated overtime that PF is sourcing money from well-wishers, but this is not enough to assure the Zambians people that Mr. Lungu is not soliciting money from people that would hold him to ransom if elected as President of Zambia. Mr. Lungu should show transparency by giving the Zambian people the details of his travels and the people giving him money for campaigns. In the same manner Mr. Hichilema should to attend to similar issues raised on the 7th January 2014 if indeed he is transparent and receptive to the Zambian people.
