In case anyone cares, I think Robin Williams was a genius. No, I didnt always think he was funny, but his mind was so fast, his neural network so amazingly creative on the fly, that I have to describe him with a word I use for hardly anyone: genius. (Im not asking if you liked what he produced, so dont bother telling me.) Unfortunately, it seems that such brilliance often comes with rather drastic emotional and mental issues. Most of the best classical composers were downright nuts. Many of the most famous painters were bonkers. A lot of the best comedians are not playing with a full deck. Its kind of sad that it often takes a tortured soul to create profound beauty. In all seriousness, I am thankful for the light brought into the world by so many people who are off their rockers, those who somehow manage to transform their own pain into sources of joy for others. So a toast to the freaks and weirdos who make the world a better place.
