In case anyone was wondering, we have some pretty compassionate, intelligent, and socially conscience teenagers in our state. This weekend I spent in Charleston with the Ohio West Virginia Yla Youth in Government. As we were heading to breakfast on Sunday on an extremely crowded elevator (I am super claustrophobic), a woman insisted on pushing in. She got pretty rude. After we exited the elevator, several of the young ladies on the elevator approached me and expressed their displeasure with the woman and her nastiness. I assured them that I was fine, and while I had thought about punching her in the face, I didnt feel that would have been an appropriate thing to do in front of students. :) Later as I went to the elevator to retrieve something from my room, one young man put his arm around me and said he would protect me so that no one would be mean to me again. These were NOT students that I took from my school, but young people I have met several times at other YLA events. I am proud to be associated with individuals that truly know and exhibit the goals of the program-leadership and character. Kudos to them all.
