In case weird, old fighting/wrestling games starring rappers isnt your thing, Ive now got another no-commentary LP going on - Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. KoR has a huge soft spot for me, and I feel so badly that it was doomed to fail. Nobody expected anything good from this game, and when it came out slightly above-average (yet no one played it), everyone considered it shit. A game published by EA after theyd already gotten their negative reputation, an obvious console port for the PC version, Day 1 DLC, and worst of all? An open-world RPG released just months after Skyrim. Skyrim was probably the number one death sentence for this game, and to this day I have no idea what the hell BHG was thinking releasing so soon after it (Not that I dislike Skyrim - quite the contrary; I prefer it to Oblivion and consider it almost as good as Morrowind). Outside of that, the advertising campaign was small and ill-focused, and they were clearly pushing too much towards a future MMORPG tie-in that never happened. Still, taken on its own merits, I enjoy it for what it is. A genuinely interesting initial plot hook for an RPG, non-cookie-cutter races, and fun, clever dialogue that doesnt take itself too seriously and has fun with fantasy tropes.
