In case you didnt hear the big news in Bellingham... Western Washington University approved a monumental labor agreement with Public School Employees of Washington and Washington Federation of State Employees approving a one-time 1.7 percent lump sum payment in July, while also moving towards $15 an hour wage floor. Western Washington University is one of the largest employers in Whatcom County. Moving to a $15 an hour minimum wage follows a national movement to increase the minimum wage. HB 2672 and HB 2608 attempted to raise the minimum wage in Washington state during the 2014 legislative session.
