In conversation with a colleague one other day, the topic of PPE - TopicsExpress

In conversation with a colleague one other day, the topic of PPE came up. The question that surfaced as a result is, Are you working for or have worked for someone who is plain ignorant and/or may value profit more than life? In my day, we were constantly sent out with little or no PPE consideration, as products, circumstances and processes were deemed by the many to be safe. I was exposed to a lot of very dangerous chemicals, circumstances and processes in the restoration and cleaning services for many years due to industry and employer/employee ignorance. Many have suffered the ill effects up to and including death, related to exposure to chemicals, circumstances and processes, that in the past and up to the present, many times even yet, are still minimized as to the dangers associated. As employers, it is our responsibility to be informed and inform to the extent that safety is implemented for the benefit of all. As employees, everyone is responsible for their own safety and that of others around them including the employer and safety officers in the work environment. Hopefully we all go home with the same goal. One of the hardest things to comply with is in this area of topic. Not everyone sees the need to use appropriate PPE suggested or required for one reason or other, viable or not. This puts the employer at risk and themselves and is a bad lead for others who may wish to follow a non cooperative spirit. Many times we run to the idea of rights. However, for the good of all, many have set aside insistence of rights aside so as to support good protocol. When it comes to mold remediation, many of us and our fellow workers are in constant exposure, thus PPE is a must, even if all we are doing is setting a good lead.
