“In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.” Proverbs 16:9 There remains an often heated debate in theology between Calvinism and Arminianism (Predestination & Free Will). I don’t really care for the term “Free Will” I prefer Free choice, because I don’t see our will as free, that is until we are born again, and even then we still struggle as the Apostle Paul clearly explains in Romans chapter seven. Until we are Born Again our will is in absolute bondage to our sinful nature, even the most just and righteous among us still sins and has impure thoughts. Obviously we have the ability to make choices, we make hundreds every day, yet the Bible is clear that the Lord has predestined events. “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ.” Ephesians 1:4-5 “In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will,” Ephesians 1:11 What we often overlook is this, God is so much larger than we can fully comprehend, and despite what mankind may or may not plan or choose to do, God will ultimately have His way, His Will be done. I believe that God gets His will done through the voluntary and even the involuntary will of His creation. “The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples.” Psalm 33:10
