In honor of all veterans and current military, we are sharing treasured photos that were recently sent to us of our four legged soldiers, aka War Dogs, as seen up close and personal by Commander Ernest John Sabol, Sr (retired as Captain USN). These military working dogs were on his ship and were a part of the 5th Division, 6th Marine War Dog Platoon---a highly decorated division. The photos were taken on the USS Aurelia AKA 23, an attack transport ship, that was at Sasebo Japan on 9/22/45 after the Japanese surrender. This ship was a part of the troop transport convoy, code named Magic Carpet, which brought back troops from the Philippines or Japan to San Francisco. We salute each of these valiant humans and canines.
