In honor of the #ALSIceBucketChallenge, heres a throwback to the #DHOH Valiant Watch promo piece that we created 2 years ago (wow!) Instead of dumping a bucket of clean ice water on our heads, today we thought wed share some knowledge on ALS and the reason for the ice water: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as Lou Gehrigs Disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord ultimately causing the brain to lose the ability to initiate and control muscle movement. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed. There is no cure. The concept of the ice bucket challenge is that when the ice water is poured on you, your nerves are affected and you are momentarily paralyzed similar to ALS.
