In most schools across the country, teachers and kids are counting down the days to summer break. They finished their standardized testing at the end of April and the academic slide began. As an educator of nearly 20 years I can share with you the unspoken secret - schools operationally and psychologically begin shutting down after testing. I believe we can all understand and relate to this better if we think of it as short timers disease. At The SAE School, our finish line is 12th grade graduation, not May. Instead of taking the entire month of August to restart the next academic year, our school and minds remain open to learning year-round because we believe this is the best approach for kids and teachers.
