In my 22 years in Washington, D.C., I have worked diligently to be consistent and not have a double standard when it comes to public issues. We must be prophetic and not partisan. That is why I get so frustrated when I see double standards in the media. For example, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid recently said about Asians, “One problem I’ve had today is keeping my Wongs straight.” This after he said about President Obama, had “no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.” These are two of the most racist and bigoted comments I have heard a major politician make in public. Yet, there was no media outcry. No calling for his resignation by progressive groups. To put this in context, one can only shudder if a major republican leader made statements like that. To the American press and progressive groups I respectively ask, be consistent and balanced!
