In my continuing quest to re-introduce myself to Zeppelin albums, - TopicsExpress

In my continuing quest to re-introduce myself to Zeppelin albums, I have finished with ITTOD and moved on to Physical Graffiti. More specifically, disc 1. Had they limited PG to simply disc 1, it might have been considered the most incredible album ever released. The other evening, while in the *proper mood*, I played the first 6 songs (disc 1) while driving my wifes Cadillac SLS, which has a very good stock Bose sound system. It was such a powerful rush of memories and as I listened without the pre-judgments of years of familiarity Id developed, I was absolutely and completely blown away. The opening 1-2 punch of Custard Pie and The Rover is eclipsed ONLY - and just narrowly - by Achilles Last Stand and For Your Life on Presence. I cant remember the last time I got into The Rover like I did. This isnt a knock on disc 2, but its definitely a step down from the first 6 songs on disc 1, in terms of pure epic-osity. As a full double-album, it is an incredible mix of all that is Zeppelin. But seriously, if they had released PG as a single album, with maybe In The Light and The Wanton Song included from disc 2, it might have even surpassed Presence or IV in absolute, mind-bending awesomeness. The truth is, I cant even decide on only 2 or 3 more songs to include from disc 2. I can only think of one or two songs from disc 2 that I could even consider leaving off, again, based on the hypothetical instance of releasing PG as a single album. That being said, lets jam.
