In my final post about Robin Williams, I have to tell a quick story as I had the opportunity to witness his greatness in person. In 2007, I attended the VH1 Rock Honors in Las Vegas, where Genesis, Heart, ZZ Top and Ozzy Osbourne were being inducted as well as performing. (I bet you can’t guess whom I was there to see…) Anywho, I was only aware of the performers but to my surprise, there were also famous guest presenters, although the only one I remember vividly is Williams. He gave us a completely random, absolutely insane, and beautifully hilarious stand-up act for about twenty, maybe thirty, minutes, then telling the crowd, “Alright. I guess I should probably go to the cue cards before they boot me off the stage.” None of what we were given that night made it into the final television broadcast. Robin Williams didn’t have to give us a show, but he couldn’t help himself. He completely embodied the spirit of a true entertainer.
