In my graduate studies, for special education, we often talk about Culturally and Linguistically Diverse students and how their culture impacts their learning, but what we also talk about is how imperative it is for ALL teachers to understand their culture and seek knowledge of the cultures of all their students in their class. There are so many ways to create welcoming and adaptive learning for every student in your class so that no child is truly left behind. My constant thought on this is, why aren’t ALL people understanding of their own cultures? Why aren’t we all willing to understand and/or learn about other cultures? It’s quite exhilarating to see how other people live! We can learn so much from each other if we are accepting that our “ways,” our “norms,” our “cultures,” are not the only ones out there! Please, for the love of yourself and the Earth we live on, educate yourselves, be understanding, be welcoming, be forgiving :)
