In my research for a final project in an environmental course, the teacher almost failed me because I proposed to burn the plastic. Burning plastic in the traditional way gives smoke and toxins. But, we now have super high temperature garbage incinerators that burns much cleaner. And, we can use the waste heat to produce electricity. Plastics happen to be a very concentrated fuel, many times more than gasoline. Instead of leaving plastics pollute and break down, we should collect it all back as precious fuel. Just like there is the conspiracy theory for the continued production and sales of plastics; maybe there is a conspiracy detering us from reusing, recycling or burning plastics?!?!
