In need of advice.. We have an almost four year old female bull mastiff with some skin issues no one can seem to figure out. She is constantly irritated in front of and inside of her back legs. It started with a hot spot on one side which seemed to heal fine with treatment. Now, its both sides and resistant to everything we try. She is a licker and a digger, constantly irrigating it further. The skin in these areas has darkened and is quite rough. The vet says dermatitis and prescribed prednisone which does help, but when shes completed the course of prednisone, its back. In addition, she absolutely cannot hold her urine while on prednisone and is miserable. The vet has recommended long term use which to use seems like a bandaid vs a solution and there are multiple negative side effects of steroid use. We would appreciate any suggestions or advice.. Sidenote - she is fed a grain free diet and skin scrappings revealed nothing unusual.
