In observance of National POW/MIA Recognition Day, the Lebanon VAMC held a ceremony today in the Chapel in honor of our Prisoners of War (POWs) and our servicemen and women Missing in Action (MIA). Mr. James Metcalfe II, Director of Indiantown Gap National Cemetery was the guest speaker. Approximately 130,000 US personnel were POWs in World War II; 7,200 in the Korean War, 725 during the Vietnam War; and 47 American personnel were POWs during the Gulf War. The Department of Defense also estimates that more than 83,000 Americans remain MIA from World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the 1991 Gulf War.
