In one of my favorite novels from the 90s, apocalypse begins in 2015 and ends in 2027. When I saw pictures of the pumpkinfest rioters it reminded me of the pyro addicts in the book, who destroyed homes & communities with fire. Octavia Butler calls her amazing work* a novel of solutions because when we as world citizens dont affect positive change, some faction of society will exploit that void with their own form of chaos. So do I believe in apocalypse? YES. Do I believe it is unnecessary? YES. We have ALL the means & resources to provide for all of our citizens ~ healthcare, education, housing, FOOD. These things should be a given. Our work, or grind should only be for extra luxuries. The fact that 400 people in the world have decided that even water is a private good and the other BILLIONS of us do absolutely NOTHING about it is exactly what will lead to The Fire Next Time.** It is well within our collective power as human beings to change all of that. #higher *Parable of The Sower & Parable of The Talents by Octavia E.
