In regards to my earlier post- in short, our school district offers an after school program for children 6-8 th grade. I figured this would be a great opportunity for chris to meet kids,and socialize. What I didnt plan on,was the discrimination, lies,and flat out disrespect I got when I signed chris up. First,the excuse was theres a waiting list ... Sooo I investigated ( NO waiting list). So, I call again...same excuse..so I decided to call child study team..where I found out the director of the after school program had called to get info on christian because of his out of district placement. WHAT??!!! So,I call back...and let them know my feelings and they assure me he would start TODAY. Today is here,still no bus pass or letter. Sooo I call again...this time ive done my own investigation,and they have been caught. They now blame it on sheppard bus...i said ok, ill call sheppard. Sheppard confirms no bus info was sent,and my problem lies with the district. So at thispoint I go higher...i called the program that funds the after school program, all its affiliates, nj boe, and a lawyer. Amazingly not even 2 hrs later I get a call from the district that chris starts wed! They dont want kids in this program frm out of district placements? Well , he is entitled...and now I plan on making SURE that EVERY child with special needs gets into the program without discrimination or hassle. They messed with the wrong mom.
