In response to Jackie McNeils nomination for the Citizenship - TopicsExpress

In response to Jackie McNeils nomination for the Citizenship Challenge (Day 1): I guess Ill start off with an issue that is extremely important to me and the future of - really - the world, and thats early childhood education. Studies have shown time and time again that young people who enter kindergarten and elementary school with a solid pre-k learning experience excel far greater than those who dont, and failing to invest in childrens education because of costs, budget balancing, whatever the reason, is failing to invest in Americas work force, and its populations overall skill, knowledge, individuality and culture. While CTs democratic led Governor Malloy has created an office of early childhood education and refused to budge on their support of this issue, many states under different leadership have chosen against doing so, essentially failing the young people of their state. You dont boost an economy, create a thriving culture and lead the future with corporate tax cuts and a free-for-all public education system, you do it by investing in young people and constantly trying to build upon the opportunities available to them. Thats why Ill be turning out to vote on November 4th. And now, with 24 days remaining until election day, I challenge UConn College Democrats President Marissa Piccolo, UConn Students for Sensible Drug Policy President Tyler S. Williams, and University of Connecticut Undergraduate Student Government Speaker of the House Kevin Lake to join me in the Citizenship Challenge. Make a video or write a post about some issue that is important to you and challenge your friends to do the same. Then make the promise to go and vote on November 4th.
