In response to community concerns expressed by bicyclists and others at the public listening sessions held locally in 2013, the road surface within the tunnels on the west hill of Rim Rock Drive will receive an asphalt overlay. The monument has secured $70,717 of its recreational fee dollars (your entrance fees) to smooth and level the road surface. The asphalt overlay begins Wednesday, May 14 and concludes Friday, May 16. Drivers and bicyclists can expect 5 to 10 minute traffic delays during the working hours of 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. One lane of traffic will remain open during construction.
