In response to our Mystery Images a community member writes: In noticing the date in the newspaper article on the photos in question, namely, 1926, it would seem to match up with Fourth of July celebrations, celebrating the 150th anniversary of Independence Day. This same year would also mark the 50th anniversary of the Battle of the Little Big Horn, or Custer’s Last Stand. Minot held a major regional fair (not yet officially the state fair) in the week before July 4. But I did not see any remarks in the local paper for that time, roughly June 28 to July 6, directly bearing on this issue. Mandan also held a major celebration at this time, too. I would be surprised if the photos did not depict a July Fourth celebration held somewhere during July 1926. At such a time, national, and Native American, costumes would be in order!
