In roughly 90 hours I will be headed home - leaving this group facility that has served as a life raft and a place to heal these past eleven months. This is a good thing and I am fired up about the future. Still... As the clock ticks and my hours left here grow ever shorter a sense of melancholy fills me. I have made friends here. Ive become a fixture in the most unlikely of communities and in the most unlikely of ways... In the heart of the hood, a white skinned guy with severe social anxiety has somehow blended in so well that I have no doubt if any man ( or men ) were to seek to harm or harass me, doors would fly open and this entire neighborhood would come to my aid. Say what you will about the real world ghettos. They are populated with some of the kindest and respectful people you could meet... At least as long as they see you as one of their own. Theyve seen me as one of their own since day one. I think some part of me is going to miss this place.
