In solidarity with the fight against white supremacy and criminal - TopicsExpress

In solidarity with the fight against white supremacy and criminal in-justice, a flash mob interrupted the St. Louis Symphony - during intermission - last Saturday night. They sang a historic American civil rights song in memory of Michael Brown and in solidarity with the ongoing struggles of people of color in a racist society. To drive home the point of their protest, the singers added “Justice for Mike Brown is justice for us all” into the civil rights classic, in a very moving action of solidarity that will live on in film and spread around the world. Following the impromptu performance, paper hearts inscribed with “Requiem for Michael Brown, May 20, 1996 – August 9 2014″ were dropped onto the crowd below. Innovative, well structured, dignified - and jaw-droppingly shocking for the status quo in attendance (especially the elite front rows). As the protestors exited the theater they chanted “Black lives matter!” According to St. Louis Symphony Orchestra publicist Erika Ebsworth-Goold, the protesters were paying members of the audience and left the building peacefully. Following the protest, the symphony continued on with the evening’s performance - yet this action lives on in hearts who were there, and hearts who are just now finding about it. Deep Green Resistance is a social-justice environmental organization. To us, there is no use fighting for the natural world unless we also fight the oppressive systems that go along with the culture of civilizations ecocide. Our White Ally Guidelines, generated by the DGR People of Color Caucus, are a resource for white-privileged activists to carry into their personal & political lives.
