In solidarity with those who mourn and those who fight back! Families for Freedom is comprised and led by people and loved ones directly affected by the carceral, detention and deportation system. We are mostly people of color all living in New York City communities under siege by over-zealous police and over policing. We have been in mourning and indignant about the murder of Eric Garner, linked to the Broken Windows style of over-policing heralded by Chief Bratton decades ago. We have mourned countless people of color murdered by police or police wanna-bes, most recently we are saddened by the cold-blooded murder of Michael Brown and we stand with the community of Ferguson that has needlessly been attacked and intimidated at a moment at which much love, respect and answers are needed. We consider this a tipping point and a wake-up call and stand with all people of conscience looking for solutions that will keep our communities safe from police violence and respected for the human beings we are.
