In the NW N.C. Counties of Alleghany, Ashe, Wilkes, Watauga, Avery, Mitchell and Yancey there are a estimated 1,800-2,000 homeless PEOPLE, in those same 7 Co.s there is but 1 shelter with 62 beds - it allows you very little in the way of personal belongings and has a 90 day limit. In those same 7 Co.s there are 25 animal shelters....Hmmmm. No organized daily soup kitchens, no day shelters, churches do not respond or make stupid excuses, most people, police and Social Services try to send you way off the Mtns to Asheville, Winston over to Johnson City/Bristol. Some SS dept.s have no clue what defines homeless. Outa sight outa mind seems the norm. We the homeless of WNC are the unwanted..........
