In the National Day Rally this year, PM Lee shared some of our future plans for Jurong Lake District. He has asked me to chair a Steering Committee to oversee these developments. Im very excited about the project. The District is already a special place for the people in the West. We now have the opportunity to make it even better. We have some ideas for the Lake and Gardens, and for a new Science Centre. Were looking at plans for enhanced livability and connectivity, including new waterfront homes connected by parks and cycling paths. Jurong East is also one of the possible locations for the future KL-Singapore High-Speed Rail terminus. If this happens, the District could become our second CBD and a new gateway to Singapore! All of these ambitious, long-term plans reflect our belief and faith in Singapores future. 50 years ago, Jurong was the frontier for our industrialization drive. Now, we are creating a new frontier in Jurong Lake District for the future - to be one of the best places in Singapore with a high-quality, sustainable and integrated environment to live, work and play. So I invite all Singaporeans, especially residents in the Western area, to join us in this exciting journey. Lets imagine what this new phase of transformation in Jurong can be, and work together to make it a truly special place for all of us!
