In the Old Testament when a person sinned they had to bring an offering to the tent of meeting to sacrifice before God for that sin. This was what God required if a person sinned in the Old Testament so people brought goats, bulls or pair of turtle doves to the tent of meeting to offer God in place of their sins. They were to go to the tent of meeting place their hands onto the head of the offering and confess their sins over the bull or goat or turtle dove then shed its blood and the blood was sprinkled over the tent of meeting by the High Priest. In that way atonement was made for the persons sins. That is how sin was dealt with in the Old Testament days. Today we live in New Testament times and the same method of making atonement was used when two thousand years ago Jesus Christ the lamb of God turned up at the Jordan river to be baptised by John the Baptist with laying on of hands on the head of Jesus Christ. This was the New Testament and in the New Testament the offering for sins of the world was a one time offering whee Jesus Christ was the lamb that was brought for sacrifice. John the Baptist was waist deep in the waters of the Jordan river and Jesus Christ the the lamb of God turned up at the river to be baptised by laying on of hands. John baptised Jesus Christ placing his hands onto the head of Jesus Christ and confessing: lo behold the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world!!!! Then plunged Jesus Christ down under the waters of the Jordan river washing away all sins once for all from off us the humanity and the world. All that was left for Jesus to do after that was come out the other side of the Jordan river carrying all the sins of the world on his body and shoulders and be nailed to the cross to death shedding his blood once for all to pay the wages of sins once for all and that is it done. After that no other offering in the future would be needed to pay for the sins as they have already been paid off once for all.
