In the Vaisnav Tantric tradition it is forbidden to interpret - TopicsExpress

In the Vaisnav Tantric tradition it is forbidden to interpret other peoples dreams because they are of such a personal nature. I believe Shaivist Tantrics have a similar view. Its considered akin to interpreting the symbolism and coincidences in someones waking life. Obviously each persons interpretation of reality is extremely personal and therefore unintelligible to anyone else. So this is respected. The ancient Greeks had dream interpreters incorporated into the rites of Aesclepius but they never imposed their interpretations- they merely asked questions of the dreamer until the dreamer reached their own conclusions. This was considered important to the Greeks on account of the vast differences that exist between individuals with regards to cultural, gender, family, class, language ( dialect ) and personal experience. In the Vaisnav tradition THIS place is the dream and THAT place is the supreme reality so all Tantric training in the Vaisnav and particularly in the Vamachara traditions is based around finding personal interpretations for THIS dream. I find this perspective that originates with the Vedas and the Tantra Sutras sits better with me than the modern western model of reality where only the material is real.
