In the end, what May asks is that we have a conversation about naming conventions rather than a given, assumed choice. More choice in this arena is good, because even though on some level, all families blend in one way or another to become one, what makes a family a family has so little to do with names anyway. I would like to add that there is no reason for anyone to feel defensive about choosing to change their last name. My choice to NOT change my last name is not an insult or a slight on anyone who chooses to. This isnt a right/wrong situation and I refuse to let anyone tell ME what is right for my family and myself. You can judge us all you want but in the end, youre the one who has to deal with your narrow-mindedness. I shouldnt have to.
