In the little town of Cloverville Michigan, there was a little boy, who stared out of the picture window of his home, anticipating the seasons first snowfall, As he watched, the snow began to fall, at first it was very lite, almost as if the first snowflakes were showing the way for the others to follow, and before long there was a blanket of freshly fallen snow on what was the brown sleeping grass and un-raked leaves of autumn . It was winter and all the fun was about to begin. The little boy ran to the landing that led to the basement and back door to the outside, where his mother kept his winter boots, coat ,hat and mittens. And he began dressing for the journey out into the winter wonderland. As he opened the storm door, he watched as his warm breath became visible in a frigid cloud of frost. He looked back at the footprints he was leaving in the snow, and with the imagination only a child could harbor, pretended he was walking on the surface of the moon. As he headed for the neighbors house to play with the other kids, he stopped to watch a rabbit hopping along, leaving it’s strange alien footprints on the surface of his moon, he stood there listening for more sounds of winter , when suddenly the sound of a snow owl broke the heavy silence of the cold. In defense he picked up some snow and made a ball, and felt secure that he had armed himself well enough to reach his destination. When he got to his destination he found his playmates were already building a fortress to fight the snowmen approaching from other side of the freshly shoveled drive. Snow walls were erected ,caverns and tunnels were burrowed into the piles of discarded frozen tundra of this unexplored land. Three sided walls with snow saucers for roofs became the shelter they would need in the event that the snowmen attacked their position. Then it happened, a voice rang out calling his name, then it came clear to him that it was his mom calling him home for dinner, once inside his mother asked were you having fun, and knowing his mother would not understand how he and the neighbor kids saved the earths moon from total destruction, looked up at her with his rosy cheeks and nose from being out in the crisp air, and simply said YEAH, and then began hoping that Monday would be a snow day and they could finish the battle. That little boy was me and the memories I made as a youth in Michigan, can not be duplicated anywhere else on earth, and though I have moved away the memories, friends and family will always make me PURE MICHIGAN
