In the midst of all the anti-islam sentiment floating around in - TopicsExpress

In the midst of all the anti-islam sentiment floating around in the wake of the Paris tragedy, I am reminded of something Richard Dawkins wrote, The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully. I guess a lot of people have short memories. What about the Crusades? The massacres and plundering in the name of predominantly Papal expansion plans. Oh, I know, that was a long time ago, were all civilized now in the West, not like those nasty Muslims today. Eh, what about the issues we had in Ireland until very recently? People killing their neighbours in the name of two different sects of Christianity? Is it Islam thats so bad? Or is it possibly just people using a religion as an excuse to be bad. Like its always been.
