In the past 5 days Ive talked with at least 3 people who dont really understand that when I say grass is bad mkay I mean THEIR grass too. Grass Lawns are non-sustainable, they damage the environment through at least two vectors. 1) the amount of non-renewable resources that we pour into them each year (gas/electricity for cutting and caring for them, chemicals we spray on them that kill beneficial plants (AKA weeds) that the BEES need, also the chemicals kill the bees...) and 2) through monoculture. I personally prefer to have lots of variety on my table, which means we each, every single one of us, have to get away from the backasswards 16th century ideal of the lawn. There are a lot of options for non-grass lawns these days, that reduce use of resources, and reduce your labor to keep them nice. I am doing a few test patches of lawn replacements this year, to see what will work with our soil and conditions. Id be happy to share knowledge and even go in with others on orders to save money and shipping. Think about it, seriously, especially if you want there to be a world to live in, air to breathe, and food to eat in the next decade. We cannot keep living like there isnt a price.
