In the second chapter of John’s Gospel, we find a very interesting story (from which, many sermons have been preached). It is the story of the Wedding at Cana, where the wedding party ran out of wine and Jesus is to perform His very first recorded miracle. After Mary, the mother of Jesus, said to Him that the wedding party had run out of wine, Jesus said to her, “That’s not my problem; my time has not yet come.” Now watch this: His mother turns to the servants and says, “Whatsoever He saith unto you, do it.” Standing nearby were six stone water jars, used for Jewish ceremonial washing. Each could hold twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus told the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” When the jars had been filled, he said, “Now dip some out, and take it to the master of ceremonies.” So the servants followed his instructions, (John 2:6-8 NLT). Then, verse 9 says something of great value and interest: “When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom.” Servants know things that kings and presidents and other rulers don’t know! It was an unnamed little slave girl in Naaman’s palace that informed the great “captain of the host” of the prophet who could secure his healing of the leprosy that was destroying him. Servants know things that rulers are ignorant of! #LawOfService
