In the wake of the most recent assaults on refugees resettled in the community on Nauru the fear of further persecution grows. Just a few days ago 2 refugees out fishing were assaulted so badly they were hospitalised. There have now been close to a dozen people that we are aware of that have been viciously assaulted. This clearly is a pattern of behaviour that could be defined as persecution. RRAN demands that the government bring these people back to Australia for resettlement here. That people who sought our assistance and asked Australia for protection from persecution should be place by our government into a situation where they are STILL at risk from physical attack is constructive refoulement. It is only a matter of time before someone is permanently harmed or killed as these attacks on Nauru are escalating. Bring them back to Australia and resettle them here before any further harm is done.
