In the wake of yet another abuse of power by a government - TopicsExpress

In the wake of yet another abuse of power by a government institution, I wanted to post this. I know it is a much smaller issue than what is happening to our friends in Ferguson, but it is important to see the parallels of what happens when government seems to give up on the needs and rights of its citizens. This was an email sent to me yesterday and it makes me as sad as it does upset. Hopefully, he will get it sorted out as I wasnt much help. Im a stroke survivor. I live off disability, which pays rent and a couple bills and thats it! Usually Im very good about not getting parking tickets, but over a year ago I received three Street Cleaning tickets and was unable to pay them, and therefore, they doubled and then tripled in fines. When my registration was due, I was held hostage, and am still being held hostage on paying it, until I pay the $625 for the three Street Cleaning tickets is paid. Its no fun driving around in fear of being pulled over by the police. It sucks! Ive been to the DMV, I wrote a letter to Mayor Garcetti explaining my situation about 2 months ago, and never heard back from him or his office. Ive left numerous voicemails with the Assistant GM of the Parking Violations Bureau and someone named Drina at the DOT, and no one has returned my calls. Its been a month now. Im being ignored. Not very professional. The PVB said they do not have a payment plan, and theres nothing they can do. I have to pay them! All Im asking is for the tickets to possibly be rescinded (A long shot. I know.), or possibly be reduced back to their original fine amount so theyre more manageable. I just want to drive LEGALLY AGAIN! Im a law abiding citizen, and Ive never even had a moving violation. I dont drive over the speed limit, and the LAPD wishes there were more drivers like me out there. Thats my story.
