In theater, a choreographers reputation is often establashed by flash, outrageoousness and temperment as much as it is by talent. I want to take a moment to remember Donald Saddler who died on November 2... a quiet gentleman, a resourceful talent and an enduring profesional. It was a pleasure to see him in his final performance in the 2001 Bwy revival of FOLLIES, a capper on a 70 years long career... staggering longevity for anyone much less a choreographer / dancer. Perhaps he is best known for staging the dances in the original production of WONDERFUL TOWN (the first of his two Tony Awards). He is responsible for Conga the number that turned the end of that shows first act into a theaterwide dance party.
