In this day and age, common courtesy seems to be a thing of the past, something practiced in slower times and a slower world; this lost art is very important because it shows respect to others. Listening when someone speaks to us, answering a question when asked, extending a hand to someone who is struggling to carry a package, are all examples of common courtesy. Making eye contact, a smile, a simple hello are small gestures that make a huge difference. It is usually very clear to us what needs to be done; when we bump into someone we say excuse me, if someone holds the door for us, we say thank you. Be aware of others, of their needs, and be courteous, freely...without an ulterior motive. Do not be disappointed if you are not acknowledged or thanked for your actions; some may not even notice, your behavior might be so foreign to them. What is really important is that YOU know you are doing the right thing, you are making a difference and are creating the kind of world YOU want to live in.
