In this weeks Times: Alexander Weston and Zachary VanDyke at Eagle Scout ceremonies March 8. Scouts earn Eagle Scout rank WILBRAHAM – Alexander Weston and Zachary VanDyk, both 18, of Wilbraham attained the Eagle Scout rank at ceremonies March 8 at St. Cecilia’s Parish Center. The Scouts are members of St. Cecilia Parish Troop 359 and are among 4 percent of all Boy Scouts who reach Eagle according to their Scoutmaster Ken Lynch. Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community, church, or school-related service project to earn his Eagle. Alex chose to design and built a new recycling kiosk for the Wilbraham Transfer Station and Zack cleaned and blazed a trail off Crane Hill Road. Both scouts join a list of other outstanding American citizens who have become Eagle Scouts, among them former President Gerald R. Ford, Jr., astronaut Neil A. Armstrong, cinematographer Steven Spielberg, and the head of the F.B.I., William Sessions. Both Alex and Zack are seniors at Minnechaug Regional High School. Alex plans to study biomedical engineering and Zack wants to study criminal justice. Alex is the son of Diane and Scot Weston of Wilbraham, and Zack is the son of Robert Allen VanDyk.
