In todays daily nation newspaper pg.18, kaimosi TTC principal demoted for resisting a directive from Ministry of Education after a deal with County government of Vihiga that would see TTC becoming a University College. In a similar separate case, the County government of Garissa has requested for a University College last month. After a visit by the Commission for University Education recently, Garissa is due to get a fully fledged University any time soon. A similar scenario, Laikipia County governor when he graced LU marathon of 5/10/2014 requested Laikipia to establish a campus in Ngarua and Nanyuki. In his statement, H.E Joshua Irungu said that a University is a development incubator for any social institution. Today I received a contrary remark from a senior county government officer (SC) saying university is a business entity...... He further displayed his ignorance by saying that the county will start its own university....i couldnt help but to burst in laughter. He claimed that the county has an elaborate plan to partner with Israel for the same. I sympathized with that young leader who is supposedly a graduate from a recognized public university. Can our leaders learn from leaders of other Counties? A University is the only Social Institution which can spur economic development almost instantly.
